volunteer program

There are many rewarding volunteer opportunities available through the Preble County Council on Aging Volunteer Program!

Our volunteers make a difference throughout the year by helping with holiday food baskets for shut-ins and individuals in need, assisting with our Thursday Night Weekly Dance, delivering meals through Home Delivered Meals, and supporting “Senior Day” along with many other events and activities. Volunteers also help prepare and mail our bi-monthly Senior Scene newsletter and serve as hosts and hostesses in Jack & Betty’s Diner.

We work to match each volunteer with opportunities that fit their interests, skills, and schedule so the experience is enjoyable and meaningful for everyone involved.

To get started, stop by the Senior Center and ask for Activities or a volunteer application. You can also download and print an application online or complete it online and submit it electronically. Once received, someone from our team will be in touch shortly.

We truly value our volunteers and appreciate everything they do — not only for our organization, but most importantly for the seniors of Preble County.

Senior Companionship Program

This special service is a way we keep “homebound” clients connected with the outside world.  Preble County Council on Aging volunteers call to check on an individual daily or as needed.  This might be a call to just say “hello, how are you feeling today?” or the volunteer might remind the individual to take their medicine, etc. It’s a way of staying in touch with a person on a friendly and caring level.  A volunteer might read a book or newspaper to the individual. Again, this is a way to keep a senior connected to the outside world and have some social time with another person.

Senior Companionship

A “Friendly Visitor” spends quality time visiting with a senior in their home. This is another way we keep “homebound” clients connected with the outside world. At a prearranged time, the senior volunteer will visit an individual, just to sit and talk, reminisce about the past, talk about the future, or play board games and cards, or watch television. The volunteer might read a book or newspaper to the individual. Again, this is a way to keep a senior connected to the outside world and have some social time with another person.
